After stepping up to 160 pounds, the rising junior middleweight secured a hard-earned unanimous decision over Shane Mosley Jr., seizing the WBC interim 160lb title in a 12-round war at Frost Bank Center, home of the San Antonio Spurs. The judges’ tallies read 117-111, 117-111, and 116-112 in favor of Ramos, who again proved he belongs at this weight class.
Ramos entered the bout as the favorite, despite the hormonal jitters that come with moving up a division. Mosley, carrying the legacy of his Hall of Fame father, showed early menace, landing several sharp right hands that opened the night with tension. Ramos answered back late in the first, keeping Mosley honest with a precise right hook that changed the momentum.
The action tilted Ramos’ way as the rounds progressed. The Arizona-based southpaw, 24 years old, kept the tempo high and outworked Mosley, who initially followed his trainer’s game plan to avoid relying on single shots. Mosley found a notable gear in the fourth round, his best stretch of the night, driving Ramos to the ropes with solid right hands. A return counter left and a bruising body attack helped Ramos steady the ship.
In the middle rounds, Ramos’ left-hand power and accuracy continued to tilt exchanges in his favor. Mosley clocked a late flurry in the fifth that drew a controversial low-blow call, briefly stalling the momentum. Ramos rebounded with sustained pressure, while Mosley struggled to keep pace despite occasional right hands that found their mark.
As the bout wore on, Ramos established better distance and movement, making Mosley chase angles and pace. A ninth-round warning from referee Laurence Cole for break-time infractions didn’t derail the action; both fighters picked up the pace afterward.
The championship rounds showcased Ramos’ stamina and tactical discipline. He used lateral movement to frustrate Mosley, scoring with lead left hooks and a steady left hand that remained money throughout the final stanza. Mosley’s best late moment came in the 11th when Ramos landed a sustained flurry that tested Mosley’s durability, though the 22-5 contender stood up to the barrage.
By the finish, Ramos had landed 281 of 613 total punches (45.8%), compared with Mosley’s 219 of 573 (38.2%), per Compubox, marking Ramos as the busier, more accurate man on the night.
This win extends Ramos’ winning streak to four since a controversial decision loss to Erickson Lubin in September 2023. It also marks his third fight of 2025, continuing a busier pace than in his 2022 run.
For Mosley, the setback ends a five-fight win streak but remains a strong indicator that he belongs in the contender tier, not merely a test for up-and-comers. In terms of career trajectory, Ramos now sits in a strong position for a possible title shot against WBC 160lb champion Carlos Adames, though the path is not immediate, given Adames’ mandatory obligations to Meiirim Nursultanov as ordered by the WBC. Ramos also holds a ranking at 154lbs with the WBO, opening doors to multiple next-step options.
The Ramos-Mosley card opened a four-fight pay-per-view lineup. In the co-feature, WBC 140lb titlist Isaac Cruz defended his belt against Lamont Roach Jr.
