Gotta Dance! Will Return Off-Broadway, Reimagined and Expanded
But here’s where it gets exciting: the beloved Broadway-and-film choreography tribute Gotta Dance! is coming back for an Off-Broadway encore, this time at Stage 42 starting March 20, with the premiere on March 31.
This retrospective of musical theatre dance—conceived and directed by Nikki Feirt Atkins and Randy Skinner—first enjoyed a limited engagement at Theatre at St. Jean’s last year, produced by York Theatre Company. The show honors the artistry of choreographers who shaped Broadway and Hollywood, featuring reconstructed numbers from classics such as West Side Story, White Christmas, Singin’ in the Rain, and more. The revival will boast music arrangements by Eugene Gwozdz, who will also conduct a live orchestra.
The upcoming cast includes Keely Beirne, Brandon Burks, Anthony Cannarella, Barton Cowperthwaite, Deanna Doyle, Sara Esty, Jessica Lee Goldyn, RJ Higton, Kate Louissaint, Libby Lloyd, Drew Minard, Cole Newburg, Melody Rose, Samantha Siegel, Ahmad Simmons, Landon Winslow, and Blake Zelesnikar. Casting is by ARC’s Mark Brandon and Matt MacDonald; the earlier run’s casting was led by The Casting Collaborative’s Jason Styres.
Design and technical credits for the revival feature scenic design by Noah Glaister, costume design by Marlene Olson Hamm, and lighting design by Ken Billington (notable for Chicago) and Anthony Pearson (John Proctor is the Villain). Projection design is by Brian C. Staton (Becoming Dr. Ruth), with sound design by Peter Brucker. The team includes Andrew Winans as associate director-choreographer and Cathy Lubash Fogelman as associate choreographer. Drew Neal serves as production stage manager.
Riki Kane Larimer is producing the revival, with Joel Grossman as executive producer. Catalyst Theatricals’ Laura Janik is on board as general manager.
